.FR now available with IDN!
As from May 3rd 2012 .FR can be registered with non-latin characters, such as à, ç, è.
Today only ASCII-characters are allowed in .fr domains. ASCII are the characters in the English alphabet (a-z), the numbers (0-9) and the hyphen, (-). With the new rules, it will be possible to register IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names) under .FR. The following characters will be allowed: ß, à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, oe.
The new regulation also applies to the other ccTLDs managed by Afnic, the .fr-registry: .wf (Wallis and Futuna), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic territories), .re (Reunion Island), [...]

Since the beginning of December 2011 it is possible for EU-citizens to register .fr (previously a trademark or an address in France was required).
